How I tested?

Testing headphones is an arduous process. For me, it involved listening to many soundtracks and Bollywood songs, testing voice quality in different environments, and even comparing audio quality by playing the same song on multiple devices back-to-back. 

I tested on four main criteria: sound quality, comfort, style, and price.

I used some of my own music that I have been listening to a lot lately (Sidhu Moosewala, Tupac, Nusrat saab, etc.) that are all very different in terms of the sounds they produce. I also used some songs to test out the bass and high pitch sounds. By switching between songs at different frequencies I was able to test how each pair sounded overall.

I then tested for comfort by wearing every pair of headphones for about 5 minutes. I felt how they fit over my head and ears as well as what it felt like when they were on. The goal was to make sure there was no pain from them being uncomfortable but also that it didn’t feel too loose or too tight either.

I next tested for style by taking a look at how each pair looked. I wanted them to match my outfit since I am a guy and the purple headphones are more feminine than the rest of them (the pink pair would be perfect for girls). They all look great with different outfits and having headphones is a great way to keep people away without hurting their feelings!

I also looked at design features such as build quality, weight, and comfort. I used the headphones while jogging, commuting to work on my bike, sitting at my desk at work, and even during a performance of a play by Shakespeare in another language.

I observed multiple candidates before narrowing down my choices from one store across three cities.

What kind of headphones do you want?

Headphones are a complicated beast. There’s a lot to consider when buying them—comfort, style, durability, sound quality, noise isolation, and more. But the biggest decision is whether you should go with over-ear or on-ear headphones. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
